About Us

Grounds and Services Limited (GSL) is a privately owned company based in Hornby, Christchurch and has been providing Grounds Maintenance, Civil Construction and Landscaping services in and around Canterbury for the past 25 years.

Our Open Spaces division offers a diverse range of services including roadside mowing, chemical spraying, pest plant control, landscaping, mass native planting and hydro seeding, as well as high amenity sports turf maintenance. We provide traffic management for NZTA and local authority contracts and roading maintenance through NZTA’s NOC maintenance contracts.

Our Civil Construction Team is growing its project repertoire and capacity having established a reputation for successfully delivered projects for earthworks, drainage, roading, pathways, concrete structures and the construction of stormwater treatment facilities, waterway enhancements and drainage improvements.

Our Mechanical Workshop extensively supports all areas of the business and external clients with services including the repair and maintenance of our vehicles and machinery, welding and fabrication.

The Opportunity

An opportunity has become available to join our Open Spaces Team as a Mower Operator. We are seeking those that share our love of the great outdoors, possess a can-do positive attitude, and who take pride in their high standard of work.

As a Mower Operator, you will deliver a high standard of mowing and other activities to client requirements based on best horticultural practices and industry standards, which include mowing, lawn maintenance, use of weeding equipment and chemicals.

You will need to maintain a safe workplace for everyone through effective communication with the lead operators and adhering to traffic management plans. This role also requires you to complete daily job records (DJR), daily pre-start procedures, managing and reporting any issues that arise on site and seek to provide solutions.

What You'll Bring

What you’ll bring:
• 2 years’ experience operating a range of ride-on mowers in a similar environment such as Toro and John Deere wide area mowers, Toro Grandstand mowers and John Deere out-front mowers
• Experience operating tractor mounted mowers advantageous
• Experience in a sports turf or amenity turf environment advantageous
• Current Class 2 NZ Driver’s License essential
• Site Traffic Management Specialist (STMS) qualifications advantageous
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change and prioritise multiple demands
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the business and the public
• Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Drive to achieve productivity, goals, and deadlines
• Proven ability to deliver a quality service and product to customers
• Have a passion for working in an environmentally sustainable workplace
• Willing to work away from the home base and on varying work shifts as required
