Carrs Road North Water Retention Basin

Carrs Road North Water Retention Basin

As part of the new infrastructure required for Christchurch's rebuild and new sub division developments in the north, a new water retention basin at Carrs Road was granted resource consent.

Having already undertaken and successfully completed the Carrs Road South Water Retention Basin project, GSL were once again successful in their bid with this project.

GSL were given a six week timeframe in which to have the project completed.

This project saw GSL undertake:

  • Overall project management responsibilities for this project
  • Sourcing and overseeing contractors undertaking the tree removal
  • Erosion and sediment control to protect the water ways
  • Liaising with CCC and other contractors also working on and near the site on other projects
  • Reshaping and grading of the basin to form the design levels
  • Placement of top soil and spreading ready for hydro seeding and soft landscaping
  • Hydro-seeding
  • Excavation and construction of embankments to form the flush basin
  • Landscaping works
  • Formation and planting of landscaping areas including mulching and establishment.

Despite it being one of Christchurch's wettest winters on record, GSL were able to successfully complete this project with little interruption and to a high standard.
